MAC August Favorites

Photobucket

MAC Dare to Dare Lip Glass - This is such a unique color! It is a purpley pink with lots of blue holographic pearls. I love the texture of these. They're much more pigmented and non-sticky compared to dazzleglasses. I also love how the Dare to Wear lip glasses are so bright they're almost neon on the lips. Do you dare?

MAC Palace Pedigreed Eye Shadow Quad - I have been using this non-stop for the past week! I absolutely love this quad. My favorite color in the quad is Russian Blue. It is such a unique matte muted grey-blue. I plan on doing daytime as well as nighttime looks with this quad. No frost finishes in this quad either (I prefer Satin or Matte). Score!

MAC Aqua Eye Shadow - I love this color! It has quickly become one of my favorite blues. It looks amazing on the tear duct area as well as all over the lid or in the crease. The possibilities are endless. I'm obsessed. Click here to see how I wore this color.

MAC Going Bananas Eye Shadow - I don't know why the picture makes this eyeshadow look so green but this is a soft light gold-ish yellow color with soft shimmer. I love using this as a highlight as well as on the lid. This color goes well with pretty much anything. For reference, Going Bananas is a lighter, softer version of Goldmine with more obvious yellow tones. I did a look using this color here.

I'd love to hear your August Favorites!

FOTD: Funky Colors and New Hair!

It's been a while but I'm back in action!! I was on vacation for a week then I got the stomach flu but I'm good as new.

Today I was playing around with colors and came up with this look. At first, I didn't plan on using the peach color as the highlight but it turned out quite interesting. Let me know what you think. Thanks for looking!

P.S. What you think of my new hairdo??

FOTD: Sassy Green

For today's look, I used some of the newer products from MAC's new launches. I also thickened my brows a bit and I'm liking it a lot more! I think my thicker brows make me look more youthful! What do you think? Let me know your thoughts in the comments section. Thanks!

FOTD: Going Bananas + Lime

This is a super easy and simple look. I used two colors from MAC's Dare To Wear collection. I tried to do the straight liner method (instead of winged up) but I don't know if you can tell the difference. Let me know what you think! Thanks lovely readers!

Tip of the Week: Spicing Up Your Makeup

I realize that we all get stuck in a routine with our makeup techniques. I know I did and still do sometimes. I used to do the same color placement for every look except change the colors a little bit. For example, I always had a highlight color, a medium crease color, a light lid color and then a darker "outer v" color. (By the way, I really hate how it's called the "outer v." I prefer "outer corner.")

To kick it up a notch, try reversing some of the color placements. The results will surprise you! Use a medium color for your "highlight" or darken the inner corner instead. Think outside the box!

Looks I used to get stuck doing:

See what I mean?

By the way, I will have separate FOTD posts on the last two looks. Have fun everyone!

FOTN: Dinner Party

I love how the glitter makes the look seem more dressed up without having to put tons more makeup on. I'm in love with the texture of MAC's Reflect Glitters because they're so finely milled and don't feel chunky at all.

FOTD: Louder, Please

I did a wearable look with one of the new eyeshadows from the MAC Dare To Wear collection. Louder, Please is a matte, hot pink eyeshadow that really makes a statement! It's definitely a bold color but can be toned down if mixed with softer colors. Let me know what you think. Thanks guys!

How To Contour and Highlight With Foundation Powders

Photobucket
Left to right: Mineralize Skin Finish Natural in Light,Mineralize Skin Finish Natural in Medium Plus, Mineralize Skin Finish Natural in Medium Dark

I've recently become a big fan of contouring and highlighting my face with MAC Mineralize Skin Finish Natural. I find that the finish is very soft and natural so you don't have to worry about looking orangey or like you've got a fake tan. Contouring slims down the area and highlighting brings out the area.

Using my awesome Microsoft Paint skills (tee hee hee), I will show you how to contour with the powders. I used three different shades for my tutorial: Light, Medium Plus and Medium Dark. If you find that too be to much work, using two different shades will suffice. For reference, I am a NC30 (ish) in Studio Fix.

The areas I like to focus more on contouring are my nose, forehead, and jawline. I like to keep everything else pretty natural. You may adjust this according to your face shape and the areas you'd like to contour. Of course, remember to blend, blend, blend!

Q&A

I've received quite a bit of questions recently and I thought I'd answer them together so everyone can benefit from them. Let me know if you guys have anymore questions. I'd be more than happy to answer them. Thanks so much for the support!

_______________________________________

What concealer do you recommend for under eyes?
I personally don't use concealer on my under eyes. I used liquid foundation to even out my entire face then apply a pressed powder that's one or two shades lighter than my skin tone underneath my eye area. This brightens them in a natural way and I don't have to worry about concealer feeling too heavy. I use MAC Mineralize Skin Finish Natural in Light. However, I love MAC Studio Finish Concealer and Select Cover-Up for under eyes if I were to use a concealer.

What are your top five MAC neutral eyeshadows?
For light and medium skin tones, I love Wedge, Shroom, Woodwinked, Satin Taupe, and Haux. For medium  and dark skin tones, I'd recommend Texture, Folie, Arena, Sketch, and Print. However, anybody can wear any of those colors. To help the colors pop more, use a base (or paint pot) that is lighter than your skin tone so the colors appear more vibrant.

I have hooded eyes and it's hard for me to wear eyeliner without it smudging onto my lid. Any tips?
I would recommend using a good base or primer before applying any eye makeup. This will prevent colors from fading and transferring onto your lid. Don't use anything too creamy because these are more likely to smudge. Using a waterproof liquid liner would be best. I like MAC Liquid Last Liners because they're seriously waterproof!

What eyeshadows do you like using for a bridal look?
I absolutely love using Vanilla Pigment as the highlight and lid color with Haux in the crease and Sketch in the outer corners. I feel that plummy looks are soo pretty on brides and compliment most skin tones.

What are your tips for aspiring makeup artists?
Being a makeup artist is a learning process. I learn new things everyday and that's what makes it so exciting and interesting. I've only been doing makeup for a few years now but I can safely say that the most important thing is to believe in yourself. I know it sounds very cliche but my drive is what keeps me going. You are going get rejected, hated on, etc. but if you don't believe in yourself, you're more likely to give up. If being a makeup artist is something you love and dream of, go for it! Give it a shot because you don't want to look back on your life 20 years from now and wonder, "What if?"

I always wanted to use false lashes but I'm too self-conscious. Do you have any tips?
When I first starting using false lashes, I felt ridiculous. They brought out my eyes in pictures, but in real life, I felt like I looked like a clown. To ease yourself into it, start by using natural ones or halfsies. Like with any new thing you try in life, it takes a little getting used to. Be confident.

Check out my other Q&A post here.

July Favorites

It's that time again! Here are my picks for July favorites. I'd love to hear yours!

Photobucket

MAC Petticoat Mineralize Skin Finish - I didn't get a chance to get this when it was originally promoted but I picked it up during the In The Groove collection. This is the perfect raspberry pink blush with just enough shimmer. I love staring at this. It's soooo pretty!! Of course, I had to get backups too!

MAC By Candlelight Mineralize Skin Finish - This is my absolute favorite highlight! It's a soft light pinky goldish color that works for any skin tone! You can even use this over another blush to create a soft glow. Since it comes in such a huge size, I don't think I'll ever finish it. However, I did buy a backup in case something was to ever happen to it. *Crosses fingers*

MAC Icescape Lip Glass - If you've been following my FOTDs, you'll notice that I've been using this religiously! It provides such a gorgeous finish because of the duochrome pinky/lavender tones. My favorite lip combo right now is Viva Glam Gaga and Icescape.
