June Favorites

These products aren't new to MAC but I've been using them non-stop this month. I'd love to hear what your June favorites are!

Photobucket

MAC Mineralize Skin Finish Natural in Medium Dark - I use this for a light contour or as a bronzer on days where I don't want to wear a lot of face products. The finish is so gorgeous and natural. I'm going to pick up Dark or Deep Dark for this summer when I get tanned.

MAC Woodwinked - I've had this eyeshadow for ages but recentely rediscovered it! I love this for a neutral look with Wedge or Kid in the crease. You can even dress this up for night time with Carbon or Sketch on the outer corners. This is the perfect shimmery bronzey gold color. I wouldn't use this as the crease color since I prefer satins and mattes for the crease.

MAC Old Gold Pigment - I'm so stoked that we sell pigments at my counter! Woohoo! This is such an amazing duochrome eyeshadow. I used this pigment on the center of my lips on top of Chili lipstick and I fell in love! The green in the Old Gold looks amazing with browns, reds, and golds!

MAC Vanilla Pigment - This is my all-time favorite pigment. Try it over a black base and you get this gorgeous gunmetal grey color. I love using it for highlighting on my cheeks, brow bone, or tear duct. I hope Vanilla never gets discontinued because I will seriously die. LOL.

FOTD: Old Gold on Lips

I've been digging the whole winged liner look lately. It looks so done up without having to spend a lot of time on it. For the lips, I went bold and added a touch of Old Gold pigment. It turned out so cool!

FOTD: Dramatic Neutrals

So my coworker was playing around with makeup on me the other day and he came up with this look. It's crazy how shading and highlighting can make eyes look so much more three dimensional. Anyway I hope you like it!

FOTD: Hot and Humid

Hey everyone! So today I decided to do something different. Instead of darkening the outer corner like I usually do, I darkened the inner corner. The pictures don't do it justice. It looked a lot more dramatic in person! I love this technique because it makes my eyes look more dimensional. Have a great day everyone!

How To Start a Freelance Kit (Part I)

So I got some requests to do a post about my freelance kit, what's in it, how I determine what to buy, etc. Part one will be more about being sanitary. These are just my thoughts on it but feel free to adjust it to your liking.

What you'll need:

Disposable mascara wands/lip gloss wands/spatulas - Would you like it if your makeup artist redips the mascara wands and puts it back on your lashes? No. Redipping is not only unprofessional, it's unsanitary and disgusting. Bacteria can transmit from client to client so be smart. Please use disposable wands to use on your clients. For glosses, you can either use disposable wands or scoop a little bit of gloss onto a clean plate and use a lip brush to apply. Spatulas can be disposable or metal ones just as long as you clean them thoroughly.

70%+ Isopropyl Alcohol - I have mine in a spray bottle so I can easily clean eyeshadows, lipsticks, dishes, etc. Make sure you clean the makeup before you use it on your client to decrease the spread of bacteria. The last thing you want is to give your client some kind of infection!

Brush Cleanser - I use the MAC Brush Cleanser because my brushes dry within minutes! It's very useful and efficient. I usually bring enough brushes but you never know if you need to quickly clean your brushes. However, I do suggest deep cleaning your brushes when you come home from your gig.

Makeup Wipes/Makeup Remover - I prefer makeup wipes because they're more convenient. It's perfect for quick clean ups or if you need to do multiple looks on one person.

Cotton Swabs/Pads - This is perfect for getting a straight edge for eyeshadow or to clean up little mistakes. There are cotton swabs that were made specifically for makeup purposes. They're pointy which is great for detail work.

Mixing Dish - This will come in handy when mixing foundations or liquid/cream products. Make sure you clean it with alcohol before and after using. It makes me feel like a true artist when I use one of these!

Paper Towels/Tissue - This is such an obvious thing to bring but so easily forgotten. How many of you are ever searching frantically for a paper towel but just can't find one? I know I get into those situations! Bring a lot because you will most likely be sanitizing and wiping things down during your gig.

Hand Mirror - Bring one so your client can follow along with what you're doing. Nothing is worst than the client hating the end result of the makeup because it was too "dramatic." Some people are very particular about how they want their makeup done. The most important thing is for your client to be satisfied.

Ziploc Bags - Bring labeled Ziploc bags to store your dirty brushes, paper towels, pencil shavings, etc. This will prevent the clean products from contaminating the dirty ones.

Hand Sanitizer - This is so important! Nothing is grosser than a makeup artist will dirty/smelly hands. Prevent the spread of germs!

Sponges - Although I prefer brushes to apply foundation, sponges can come in handy as well. Use this to blend foundation or clean up any mistakes. Best of all, they're inexpensive and disposable.
